The National African Peer Review Mechanism Governing Council (NAPRM-GC) from September 9 to October 10 this year, in partnership with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), held five Training of Trainers workshops for its District Oversight Committees.

The participants came from 20 districts from all the 10 regions of Ghana.
The workshops formed part of a project supported by the European Union and the Hanns Seidel Foundation on the theme “Strengthening the APRM Process in Five West African countries.” After the first workshop, a core team of trained DOC members trained their peers at the subsequent four workshops where technical staff of the secretariat of the NAPRM-GC and headquarters of the NCCE acted as resource persons.
The workshops were held in Kumasi, Koforidua, Cape Coast and Tamale. The first workshop was facilitated by experts from the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS). Prior to the workshops, a  Training Manual for DOCs was developed to serve as a guide for the activity.
The ILGS was engaged as the consultant to develop the manual. The manual, which formed the basis for the workshops, consists of eight modules including Adult Learning Techniques, Social Mobilization, Group Management, Resource Management, and Participation and Inclusion of Vulnerable Groups.
Other modules are Government Administration, Decentralization and Local Government Structures, the African Peer Review Mechanism Process in Ghana, and Research and Reporting Methods.
The next stage of the project will be Pilot Capacity Building workshops for citizens in communities of the 20 selected districts. The trained DOCs will be the main facilitators for this activity.
The project, which commenced in March 2013, is also being implemented in Togo, Burkina Faso, Benin and Mali.
